Geraint Roberts, Sports Development Officer from Chepstow passed on a contact for the Monmouth & District Rifle Club. Terry Lowman the club secretary showed myself (Pip Jenkins) and Darren Hickey around the site, going over the risk assessments for the area used and showing us the railway tunnel that they use to shoot in. This is a very professional set up with safety paramount because of the nature of the sport. They currently have a team shooting for Wales and have approximately 160 members.
They charged us a very reasonable £5 per person, this was an introductory rate and next time they have asked to charge £10, this is solely for the ammunition used, they provided 5 members from the club and they gave their time for free.
We took 7 young people compiling of 5 boys and 2 girls, with 3 staff on Tuesday 31st May from 12 - 2.30.
All these young people were well known to the staff and we knew they would listen and abide by the strict rules. There was one young girl NR, who is in the cadets and she showed us all up with her amazing sharp shooting, she was asked to join the club immediately!
As for the other young people, they had a brilliant couple of hours and all wanted to come back and do it again.
In the gallery there are some photos from the day.
